Barack and Michelle Obama have signed a deal with Netflix. The former President and First Lady will produced series and films for the streaming network, including potential work on scripted and unscripted series, docu-series, documentary films and more under the multi-year deal.
“One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life," says POTUS44. "And to help them share their experiences with a wider audience.” He goes on to say that it's their past experience that encouraged him and Michelle to find s future with Netflix.
As for Michelle, she says it's about sharing information in a relatable way. “Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us," she offers. "Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.”
Locking down the Obamas is huge deal for Netflix, who also recently signed production deals with"Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and "Grey's Anatomy" creator Shonda Rhimes. It's not known how much the deal with the Obamas is actually worth, but let's not forget that the couple signed a joint book deal worth $65-million dollars with Penguin Random House in March.
